Thanks Buzz!! Excellent presentation. I really liked your point that any practical Mars mission will require collaboration among all the participants in the endeavor. I always thought that is what made Nasa an awesome organization. How they managed all the “moving parts” and sub-systems in order to produce the impossible product: successful flight, and flights, to and from the moon using courage, science, and out of the box thinking. The reason that there are so many “naysayers” out there is because this was accomplished with less computing power than what an Iphone has (i.e., the most powerful multi-million dollar building sized super computer had about 2 o 2.5 megabytes of total storage!! That’s it!! The personal computer of the day was known as a slide rule (I know because I programmed on the computers of that day — using key punch machines and punched cards, and my trusty slide rule (er… personal computer) got me through my college year of calculus. Anyhow, genX and younger generations were not taught such history which I think has been a HUGE mistake that has, and will, prove to be a very costly one. The universe may contain more wonders than can be imagined by our science; however, life definitely contains more problems than can be imagined by any test.
Your presentation helped to open a breach in the “teach to the test” box, and hopefully it has opened up a few minds to think outside that box. Again, thanks Buzz. Here’s to a very long life. You are needed!

Will Buzz be signing autographs or photos at ComicCon? I have purchased tickets, but did not see him on the list for these other notable persons. I am very interested in getting this with my 5 year old son, meeting a great man like Buzz will do good things for him.

Buzz, if you are interested I’d like to invite you to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA (about 50 miles south of San Jose.)
We have 2 retire astronauts teaching here and many students working on Space Systems Master’s degrees. We’d love to hear from you if you had the time.
